Summertime!

Well we are a week into our Summer break (obviously posting much later... like 3.5 weeks into summer break) & have started it off with a bang! There's no easing into it with these boys! It took them exactly 2.5 days of being on break before they started asking about their friends & literally crying to see them. So my idea of taking it easy & staying low key until we headed on vacation went right out the window & we were off & running...

Monday to have lunch with Donna & then to the zoo...

Tuesday to their favorite playground...

Wednesday to the beach...

Thursday to TWO malls, new shoes x3 & a phone replacement...

Friday back to one mall & then to the pool & THEN to a birthday party...

Saturday to a friends pool...

Garren

Caden

Kellan

Sunday to the movies & back to friends pool...

Monday to Fort Clinch for some shark tooth hunting...

Tuesday I finally had to reel it in so I could catch up on laundry & start packing for our vacation.

Now, to just reach our destination & RELAX!!!...

Memorial Day Weekend 2014

We didn't have anything big planned for our long weekend. I started out feeling a bit nostalgic... Last year my dad & Marie were here, we played at the beach & took the boys to the pool & went to the zoo. It was a great weekend & I'm glad I have good memories like that of my dad. The busy-ness that was our weekend eventually took over & a great weekend ensued...

Friday evening we found ourselves with an important appointment in Jacksonville on Saturday, we couldn't take the boys so quickly called my sister to see if they had plans, they didn't & agreed to watch the boys for us. We have left the boys a couple times but usually after they were already in bed asleep at night or during a nap, we have never taken them someplace else & dropped them off. We really didn't have time to dwell on it & just did it.

We arrived at my sisters & her & my brother run law had their bounce house set up outside for the boys & my nephew to play in. We waited until they were playing & slipped out one at a time. They never even noticed. They had a great time playing with their cousins, first in the bounce house, then playing in the water. They cleaned up in the shower & ate a good lunch for Aunt Autumn & Uncle Steven, they even went right down for a nap & slept for 2 hours. aunt Autumn said they were very well behaved. Kellan got a little emotional every once in a while but an extra hug from Uncle Steven made everything ok again. I am so happy that they did so well!!!

Donna & I were able to make it to our appointment & even have a nice lunch out afterwards with no kids!!!

Sunday we went to my mom & bonus dads for a cookout. The weather was questionable, thundering all day with dark clouds rolling in & out. The boys got in some tractor rides with Papa before we headed inside. We ate & since it wasn't raining... yet... We let the boys play in the kiddie pool for a little bit before the thunder started up again.

Monday, Memorial Day is a pretty emotional day for much of my family. My cousin was killed in action in Afghanistan almost 3 years ago, so we remembered him & all the other service men & women who had given their lives.

Memorial Day Weekend

My dad & bonus mom came up for the weekend and boy did we have fun!!!

My parents arrived Saturday morning. We had already decided we were going to the beach as soon as they arrived. I figured Saturday morning would be the least crowded time of the holiday weekend. My dad called as they pulled in the parking lot & I told him the door was open & to just walk in. If I had known how surprised the boys were going to be when grandma & grandpa walked in I would have had a camera ready. I don't think I have ever seen that much excitement in the faces before, the gaping open mouths & gasps with excited were just too much!!! I will have a camera ready next time!

So we headed out to the beach for a little fun in the sun to start our weekend. The boys dug in the sand & built (& smashed) sandcastles with grandma & grandpa. Garren of course visited with dogs close by & everyone took turns running up & down the beach. The tide was in & the water was a bit cold so there was no swimming on this trip.

After naps we took the boys down to the pool to try out their new "puddle jumpers." Hey are arm floaties with an added chest floaty/life jacket. I was sure the boys would not be happy in a float this year & hope that these help them learn to swim. We put them on the stairs & let them make their way into the pool on their own. None of the boys are completely comfortable with submerged & not being able to feel the bottom yet, but they kept trying it out. I think by summers end they will be jumping into the pool with no fears :)

Sunday we headed to the Jacksonville Zoo & Gardens. Since we had extra hands the boys got to walk quite a bit. Kellan pushed his face between the fence posts to look at the animals while Caden & Garren had to be picked up to see over the fence. Garren did a little face squishing but wanted to be "up" most of the time. After lunch we changed the boys into their swim suits & set them loose on the splash pad. They had so much fun playing & running & jumping in the water. We decided to leave when Donna pointed out the line of people waiting to get in but couldn't until some of us left. It was well past the boys usual nap time but they were doing pretty good. We made one last stop to see the giraffes & then headed for the exit.

Just a note about this wagon, we got NO triplet comments at all!!! And that storage bag holds a TON of stuff, like the entire diaper bag, 3 beach towels, 3 changes of clothes/swim suits, 3 pairs of shoes, the camera & camera bag. Fantastic Wagon!!!

 Giraffes
Thanks for the new hats Grandma!!!

Due to the fact that Donna was transferred out of state just before I got pregnant with the boys, we have not lived close to family or even our close friends since then. Our move to GA was to be closer to family so that we could visit more frequently but we are still a ways from the closest family member. So Donna & I had not had a date night since before the boys arrival, that was until Sunday. Donna still has a little trouble leaving the boys so we waited until they were tucked into bed & soundly sleeping before hearing out for our fist date night in 2 years.

 A nervous Donna driving away...
We went & watched the sunset & then for drinks. It was kind of weird, we didn't worry about the boys at all but didn't really know what to do not having a wagon or stroller to push or kids to entertain, lol... It was very refreshing though to have an uninterrupted conversation & to not be listening for someone to cry out or wake up.

A pretty sunset
Monday morning Donna made banana pancakes for breakfast. Then her & my dad finally put the tricycles the boys got for their birthday together and we took them outside to try them out.

Grandma & grandpa headed home after we put the boys down for their naps & our super fun weekend came to an end.

We also remember what Memorial Day is really about. We remembered my cousin & all of the soldiers that have served & sacrificed protecting all of us.

Memorial Day Weekend

This holiday means more to us this year than it has in past years, as my cousin Patrick was killed in Afghanistan last August defending our country.

Remembering Patrick on this Memorial Day Weekend

As for our weekend, well Tropical Storm Beryl put a damper on our beach plans :( We ended up staying close to home or rather we stayed home. We had everything we needed for the weekend here & so it ended up being pretty relaxing.

Saturday we picked blueberries from the backyard. I had been picking them all week, trying to get them before the birds or dear did.

Getting a little restless, ready for a ride around the yard :o)

Sunday we dodged rain most of the day but did manage a little more blueberry picking & some hamburgers & hot dogs on the grill, good thing the grill is inside a cook-house, it started to pour just as Donna got everything on the grill.

Donna got a break in the rain,
just in time to get the food off the grill

The boys loved their hamburger, hot dogs & even a little cauliflower salad (like potato, but with cauliflower) & baked beans.

We finally had a long enough break in the rain for the boys to try out their pool for the fist time...

And then it was time for home-made blueberry pie...

On Monday we had blueberry pancakes for breakfast. We cooked out again, steaks this time & had home-made blueberry ice cream.

Thank you to all that have served & are serving our country & we hope everyone had a fantastic weekend!!!
